Social Impact Award GSEA – Wangechi Mwangi, CEO of Valuraha, Strathmore University (Kenya).

I want to take a moment to highlight a very special woman, Wangechi Mwangi, CEO of Valuraha, Strathmore University (Kenya).  She was given the Social Impact Award at The Entrepreneurs’ Organization’s (EO) Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) for leveraging her business to improve her community and the world at-large. The idea for Valuraha was created to open up access to financing, financial education and trading competence in Kenya and Africa using its virtual trading platform.  Her passion and commitment to helping others are values we also bring to our own businesses. Its inspiring to see what she is doing in the global community to help educate and inspire young investors. Some of Valuraha’s initiavies are: A high school program, that deals with investor education and financial literacy across different high schools in Kenya. The mission: To Create a Generation of Market Movers, Starting Now! Part of the club activities include analyzing some of the listed companies on the Nairobi Securities Exchange and competing in managing a virtual portfolio. We ran the first edition of the club in Alliance High School, Kenya High School and Precious Blood Secondary School. Some of the companies that were analyzed by the students in this first edition included: Britam, Centum, Safaricom, Equity Bank and Home Afrika. This is what happened in 2014. A University Program in collaboration with Strathmore University School of Finance and Applied Economics aids students from the different schools to come together and get to meet the faces behind the companies that they spent weeks researching on. It is also a day of inspiration and networking for them as we kickstarted...

Dogtopia Quary Park to open summer 2015

Dogtopia Quary Park to open summer 2015

There is a buzz in Calgary.  Everyone is talking about Dogtopia; the new industry leader in dog daycare, boarding and spa.  Peter Thomas came across Dogtopia two years ago through his company Thomas Franchise Solutions and recognized a winner so he purchased 50% of Dogtopia as well as the Master Franchise Rights to all of Canada.  Chad Hughes met Peter Thomas through the Entrepreneur Organization in 2012 and through their relationship Peter introduced Chad to this winning concept. Peter and Chad were able to put together a deal that would grant Chad the rights to develop 6 locations in Calgary as a starting point. As the Master Franchisor, Peter wanted to demonstrate his commitment to establishing the Dogtopia brand here in Calgary, and therefore led the way by opening the first location on March 14th.  The success of this first location will have an influence over the 6 subsequent locations Chad and his partner Rob Loskot will develop through HC Canines in the next two years.   HC’s first location will be open for business in the summer of 2015 at a winning location near Quarry Park.   Please visit our Dogtopia Canada web site  to keep on top on breaking news and learn more about how we can help you and your furry family....

Rising from the polygamous setting of about 12 children to become the first to get a tertiary education was no mean feat for this young man who had to hawk local goods on his head on express roads to keep body and soul together. Today, he has weathered all odds to become a finalist extraordinaire (spent double the duration) in the University, owing to grave financial constraints. Today, an undergraduate of Nigeria’s Finest Federal University; the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos.
